JULY 21-22: According to a 2017 Bureau of Justice Statistics survey, 37% of state and federal prisoners and 44% of jail inmates reported having been told by a mental health professional they have a mental health disorder. There are now 10 times as many seriously mentally ill people in jails and prisons as in state hospitals, and our country’s three largest psychiatric facilities are actually jails. Correctional facilities are fast becoming de facto psychiatric hospitals.

The Correctional Mental Health Care Conference is an extraordinary opportunity to delve into the complexities of providing mental health care in this challenging situation. Both mental health care providers and other correctional health professionals are invited to spend two days learning and sharing, with more than 30 educational sessions and great networking opportunities built in.
