Release Date

A drug outbreak in Atlantic City, New Jersey is currently being monitored by the NDEWS Coordinating Center. Approximately 10 suspected heroin overdoses (6 fatal, 4 non-fatal) have been reported by the police department over the past week, including six (6) Wednesday, January 26, between 4:00pm and 10:00pm. Two of the Wednesday overdoses were fatal; four were revived with Narcan.

Wax folds/bags stamped "King of Death" were found at two of the scenes Wednesday and are reportedly responsible for two of the deaths. The Atlantic City Police Department (ACPD) released a Public Safety Announcement about a bad batch of heroin Wednesday 1/26. Toxicology results are pending.

CDC/NCHS National Vital Statistics System Mortality Data shows that New Jersey is one of 19 states primarily in the northeast and southern census regions that saw a statistically significant drug overdose death rate increase from 2014 to 2015. New Jersey's drug overdose death rate increased 16.4% per 100,000.
