On June 26th, 2016, the Denver Post released an article regarding the new narcotics protocol as a result of fentanyl deaths. Fentanyl can be absorbed through the skin or inhaled if it is airborne. The smallest amount can be deadly, which is why agencies are changing the protocols to keep officers safe. At first, fentanyl was an issue of concern due to its use, but now it poses a threat to first responders and police officers.
