The Heroin Response Strategy, funded by The DEA's High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) program, has hired drug enforcement officers and public health analysts in 17 states to share information on opioid trafficking and overdoses. These individuals will be tasked with looking at the trends in overdoses and the demographic information of those involved. Each of the public health analysts (PHAs) will have the freedom to develop creative ways to respond to the heroin crisis with the goal being to build safe and healthy communities (Source: Join Together, New Partnership Helps 17 States Share Information to Fight Heroin Crisis, 6/1/16).
