Percentage of Methamphetamine Deaths That Also Involved Fentanyl in Five SCS

From the 2018 Sentinel Site Community reports:

Sentinel Site Epidemiologists (SCEs) from sites in the Northeastern United States were more likely to report the presence of fentanyl in intoxication deaths involving cocaine, methamphetamine, and heroin than sites in the West and Southwest. In Maine and Philadelphia, and Wayne County more than 60% of drug intoxication deaths involving heroin, methamphetamine and cocaine also had fentanyl and/or a fentanyl analog present. In contrast, in San Francisco and Los Angeles 15% or less of these intoxication deaths also had fentanyl and/or fentanyl analogs present.

Methamphetamine intoxication deaths with fentanyl and/or fentanyl analogs present were reported by:

  • Maine
  • Philadelphia
  • Texas
  • San Francisco City & County
  • Los Angeles County
