NDEWS works with two types of local experts: Sentinel Community Epidemiologists (SCEs) and Community Epidemiologists (CEs). All are members of the NDEWS Network.
The SCEs represent the 12 Sentinel Community Sites. They are the central point of contact for their area and are participating members of the NDEWS Network. These epidemiologists were selected from the former NIDA-sponsored Community Epidemiology Work Group (CEWG) sites in order to maintain collaborations with local experts with ready access to local data and information. The SCEs participate in quarterly virtual meetings with Coordinating Center staff and prepare annual profiles on drug use and abuse, and emerging drugs and drug trends, about their site.
The CEs serve as the point of contact for an additional eight locations.
Reports: Annual Sentinel Community Site (SCS) Drug Use Patterns and Trends reports provide an overview of drug use in the SCS, with a focus on emerging drugs and patterns of drug use, including a local narrative prepared by each SCE. Individual site reports are listed under each locality.
